Intel's 14th generation Core Arrow Lake-S switches to LGA 1851, not compatible with LGA1700, and has three new platforms: Z890, B860 and H810

The original plan for the transition of the 14th generation Core with Meteor Lake-S may change.

14th Gen Processor

According to the latest news from Benchlife, the Meteor Lake-S core architecture that Intel plans to launch in the first half of 2024 will be axed and replaced by Arrow Lake-S. In other words, the Meteor Lake-S core planned for the 14th generation was abandoned, and the core of the originally planned 15th generation Core Arrow Lake-S "Arrow Lake" was used.

The reason is unclear at present. It may be due to pressure from AMD that the originally planned 14th generation (actually the 13th generation Core S toothpaste version) was cut off. This is a good thing for players.

Since the 15th generation is a brand new architecture, the platform, CPU pins, etc. will be fully updated, which means that next year will usher in a major update.

First of all, the CPU pin will be changed from LGA1700 to LGA 1851, and the platform will be Intel 800 series. The new 800 series platforms include Z890, B860, and H810. H870 will be canceled this time; W880 and Q870 are targeted at entry-level workstations and commercial markets respectively, both of which support vPro Intel vPro technology.

In terms of core combination, the highest core combination is maintained as 8P + 16E, but the configuration of 6P + 16E will be cancelled.

The new pins will continue until 2026, because the subsequent "Moon Lake" Lunar Lake also uses LGA 1851 pins.

In terms of memory support, the entire system will support DDR5 memory, and there will be no more DDR3 DDR4 Memory. The native frequency will also be raised to 6400MHz, and the maximum capacity can support 48GB.

In terms of the number of PCIe channels, the Z890 has a maximum of 60, including 26 for the CPU and 34 for the PCH; the B860 and H810 platforms have a maximum of 44 and 32 channels. In addition, Intel Z890, W880 and Q870 have 8 DMI 4.0 channels, while B860 and H810 only have 4 channels.

Finally, in terms of technology, Arrow Lake-S will adopt Intel 20A process (equivalent to 2nm). In Q3 last year, the first batch of internal test chips for Intel 20A and 18A processes have been taped out. So far, everything is going well.

The above is the latest news of the 14th generation Core, continue to dig later, wait and see~

Now that Intel doesn't squeeze toothpaste anymore, does Amd Gaming Pc have to make more moves?
